F. Murray Abraham (Class of 1958): Actor: Won the 1984 Academy Award for Best Male Actor in Amadeus for his brilliant role as Antonio Saleri. Notable acting roles in various other legitimate theatre, film, and television media including narrator in PBS NOVA series. He gave a superb performance as Ad’har Ru’afo in Star Trek: Insurrection the film presented in 1998. As a descedent of Syrian and Italian parents, in July 2004, during a ceremony in Rome, he was awarded the "Premio per gli Italiani nel Mondo." This is a prize distributed by the Marzio Tremaglia foundation and the Italian government to Italian emigrants and their descendants who have distinguished themselves abroad. Early in his career, he was one of the "Fruit of the Loom guys"—the grape (men dressed up as fruits) in the underwear commercials much to the delight of children and fans who grew up knowing him.
